May, so far

It has been a busy few weeks, as we have been wrapping up on homeschool, and we are now all finished with the school work portion of 10th grade! Hard to believe that our last little bird in the nest has only 2 years left. If you are a homeschooler, you know that just because the school year ends, the work really does not. We have started packing up all the things from this year, picking out curriculum for next year, are making “to do” lists for the summer and upcoming year, and waiting on planner launches to purchase our planners for next year. I will add a post on Wednesday to update, in detail all of this! For now, I will show you our stack of “things to pack up” so far! (Obviously, I have quite the stack of papers that I still have to file!)

Mother’s Day has now passed. Being a mother has always been my favorite thing, but the day can so emotionally complicated. It makes me miss my Mom even more, and saddens me that we never really got the chance to really enjoy “adult” Mother’s Day outings. I miss the days that my children gave me little finger painted handprint bouquets and trinkets. My young adult children live out of state so a text message is now how it goes. My youngest daughter and husband did take me to brunch after church, which was nice! Holidays are not the easiest for me, that is not an easy thing to admit, but true. So now on to more “normal day” things!

I have FINALLY finished one of my crochet projects. It is the Dune Blanket (pattern credit: Attic 24, yarn pack available at WoolWarehouse). I did alter it just a bit to make it just a bit shorter, and absolutely love how it came out! I do have quite a bit of yarn left over so I will try to come up with something to use it up, because the colors are just adorable! Our Trixie Cat definitely approves!

My Harvest Moon lap blanket is coming along, it is a challenge! I think I am about 3/4 done. I do wish that I could capture the colors better. When it is complete, I plan to take some photos outside to see if that helps with that!

Next up, I will be using the color combo, suggested in a post by Little Dove Crochet. She did make a beautiful V Stitch blanket using these colors, which I will mimic. If any is left over, I have a few ideas floating around in my head! She used sytlecraft dk and I am using the stylecraft cotton dk in the same colors. I am excited to see how this comes out! I usually don’t use such bold colors and am excited to use these as a starting point!

NOW… on to books! I will go into greater detail on Friday as I will make that my “book blog” day, but I would like to share what I have been reading over the last two weeks :)

I usually read a book late in the night after work. I finish up work at 1 am, and curl up with my reading partner Beans, on our little sofa in our homeschool room/office. I also always have an audible book going to listen to while I crochet, clean the house, or need to fill in the quiet.

What I have been reading (and a picture of my reading companion):

I have finished “Hazel Says No” and “Mad Mabel” and will likely finish “The Mother Daughter Book Club” in a day or two. I will leave complete reviews on Friday!

I have been listening to “In the Woods” (Finished) and “A Calamity of Souls”, and will update on Friday, as well.

I am working on trying to figure out how to manage a Facebook page (dedicated to projects and blog posts) without having to keep an active Facebook personal profile…it seems to be quite the challenge. I am, however, finding that social media, while great for connection, can also be a great distraction and can definitely play a role in my mood day to day. I would like to connect more on a more positive and personal level. We shall see how this plays out!

I hope you have a beautiful week, I would love to hear about what you are up to!

Gina xoxo
